From Website to CRM and Call Booking

A construction company came to us with no website and a clear idea of how they wanted to work. They left with a website, a CRM, online call booking and an email system that answers before anyone has picked up.

What they were after

A working contractor with no online presence at all, looking to be found and to look established to a customer comparing a few firms. Built from nothing — there was no old site to migrate, no previous agency to unpick, and no existing material beyond what the owners had in their heads.

That sounds like the easy version of this job and it is not. When there is nothing to react to, every decision is an argument from first principles, and the client is the only person who knows the trade.

How we worked

Their ideas, our build. They knew what a customer asks before hiring a contractor, which jobs are worth chasing and which are not, and what a quote conversation actually sounds like. None of that is available to us from the outside, and a site built without it would have been a brochure.

Our side was translating that into something that works: what a page has to say before a visitor will call, where the enquiry goes when they do, and what happens next without anyone remembering to do it.

What we built

  • The site, from scratch. Services, the work, and enough proof for a homeowner to decide this is a real firm. Hosted and maintained by us.
  • A CRM. Enquiries land somewhere with a record attached instead of scattering across a phone, an inbox and a notebook. This one came from them — it was not in the original brief.
  • Online call booking. A customer picks a slot rather than playing telephone tag with someone who is on a site all day and cannot answer.
  • Automatic email replies. An enquiry gets acknowledged immediately, at two in the morning as readily as at two in the afternoon.
  • Search and profiles. The local listings that decide whether a contractor shows up at all when someone nearby searches.

The bit worth copying

The CRM, the booking and the auto-reply were not sold to them. They asked, once the site existed and enquiries started arriving, because the website is what makes the operational gap visible. You cannot feel the cost of an enquiry sitting unanswered for a day until enquiries start arriving.

This is the shape of nearly every good engagement we have. The website is the entry point and almost never the valuable part. What the customer eventually pays for is the operation behind it — and that scope cannot be written up front, because the client has not met the problem yet.

It is also why we would rather stay involved than hand over a finished site. A contractor who has just discovered that missed calls are costing them jobs does not need a new agency; they need the person who already built the front door to fit the rest of the house.
